About Symbio Wildlife Park
Symbio Wildlife Park is a family-owned and operated wildlife park located on the southern outskirts of Sydney in Helensburgh. Conveniently positioned at the top of the Illawarra escarpment, we are just minutes away from Stanwell Park Beach, the world-renowned Royal National Park, Sea Cliff Bridge, and Bald Hill Lookout, where you can take in majestic 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean!
Nestled on over 20 picturesque acres of manicured gardens, Symbio is home to all your favourite Australian animals! We also have a large range of amazing exotic animals, including cheetahs, ring-tailed lemurs, red pandas, meerkats, small monkeys, and more.
Founded in 1975 as a small wildlife park, Symbio Wildlife Park has now grown to become a multi-award-winning and internationally recognised zoo!
You can enjoy behind-the-scenes experiences with Red Pandas, Meerkats, Koalas, or Little Penguins. Want to do even more? Take part in an Aussie or Exotic Zoom experience, where you combine multiple encounters for the ultimate animal adventure.
For those who love farmyard animals, the Symbio Farmyard precinct is the place to go. Feed and pat goats and sheep, meet the cutest guinea pigs, and see chickens and ducks.
Every day, you’ll have the chance to be amazed by numerous interactive daily presentations and to interact with a variety of animals as you move about the park.
Facilities at the park include undercover shelters, picnic areas, a large playground surrounded by shady trees, Symbio Splash Park to cool down during the hot summer months, and Symbio Café, stocked with hot food, snacks, refreshments, ice creams, and essentials like sunscreen.
Visitors to Symbio Wildlife Park will have the opportunity to cuddle up to a Koala for a once-in-a-lifetime iconic Aussie selfie, or roll about on the grass as you feed, pat, and interact with our large mob of kangaroos. If that’s still not enough and you want to get even closer, you can join one of our exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences!
Symbio is open from 9.30am to 5.00pm every day except Christmas Day.
Our Mission & Purpose
Our mission is to Educate – Inspire – Preserve
Our purpose is to provide a ‘connection’ between people, animals, and the environment. The world revolves around these three critical elements, and we see it as our role to bridge the gap between them. As you walk around the gardens of Symbio Wildlife Park, you will feel a deep sense of quiet, calm, and connection to our wildlife.
Behind the scenes and away from the public eye, we at Symbio have established critical breed-to-release programs for two of the country’s most endangered species, the Green and Golden Bell Frog and the Bellinger River Snapping Turtle.
Our work in the environmental space has led to the implementation of many processes and procedures, not only to become a more sustainable and environmentally friendly business but also to truly lead by example and help guide the industry toward positive change.
These changes include, but are not limited to, installing large solar systems to reduce our carbon footprint and reliance on grid energy, as well as rainwater catchment stations to alleviate the need for town water. We also have a five-stage composting system where 100% of organic waste is recycled into usable garden soil and mulch. Additionally, we undertake other sustainable practices such as cardboard, plastic, and bottle recycling initiatives, and we limit the use of palm oil products.
