Priority Species We Protect
The Symbio Conservation Foundation is dedicated to the protection and recovery of some of Australia’s most endangered native wildlife. Our conservation efforts focus on species that are on the brink of extinction and urgently need our help to survive. Through habitat restoration, scientific research, biosecurity measures, and breeding programs, we are actively working to preserve biodiversity and protect Australia’s unique ecosystems.
Bellinger River Snapping Turtle
Critically endangered and found only in a small stretch of the Bellinger River in New South Wales, the Bellinger River Snapping Turtle has faced catastrophic population decline due to a sudden viral disease outbreak. We support collaborative research, emergency biosecurity efforts, and ex-situ breeding programs to ensure the survival and eventual rewilding of this iconic freshwater species.
Green and Golden Bell Frog
Once common along Australia's east coast, the Green and Golden Bell Frog is now listed as vulnerable, primarily due to habitat loss, introduced predators, and disease. Our conservation initiatives focus on habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, and the establishment of healthy breeding populations to support the long-term recovery of this important amphibian species.
Southern Stuttering Frog
The Southern Stuttering Frog, also known as the Southern Barred Frog, is highly sensitive to environmental disturbances, climate change, and chytrid fungus. As part of our commitment to amphibian conservation, we work with scientists and environmental organisations to protect critical habitats, monitor wild populations, and raise awareness of this declining species.
By protecting these threatened species, we’re helping preserve the balance of nature for generations to come.
Symbio Conservation Foundation acknowledges the Dharawal People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, learn, and care for wildlife.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations Peoples.
