The health and wellbeing of our animals, staff and visitors is our highest priority.
Following the detection of H5 avian influenza (bird flu) in New South Wales, Symbio Wildlife Park has activated enhanced biosecurity and animal health measures as part of our long-standing preparedness plans. Like accredited zoos across Australia, we have been preparing for the arrival of avian influenza for some time and continue to work closely with NSW and Australian Government authorities, our veterinary partners and the Zoo and Aquarium Association (ZAA).
Visitors may notice some temporary changes around the park, including;
- additional signage,
- modifications to some animal experiences and habitats.
These precautionary measures are designed to minimise contact between susceptible animals and wild birds while helping protect the health of the animals in our care.
Importantly, Symbio Wildlife Park remains open, and it is safe to visit. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update this page should there be any changes to park operations or visitor experiences.
What is Symbio Doing?
Our response includes
- Enhanced monitoring of all susceptible animal species.
- Increased biosecurity procedures across the park.
- Veterinary surveillance and health assessments.
- Staff training and preparedness.
- Close communication with NSW Government, Australian Government and Zoo & Aquarium Association.
- Review of contingency and emergency response plans.
