Quokka Joeys Born at Symbio Wildlife Park!
There’s something extra special happening at Symbio Wildlife Park, TWO quokka joeys have officially begun peeking out of mum’s pouch, delighting keepers and visitors alike. Known as the happiest animals in the world, quokkas are already a family favourite, and welcoming two joeys makes this season even more exciting.
For families, playgroups and school groups visiting Symbio, spotting a joey exploring for the first time is a magical and a wonderful opportunity to learn about animal life cycles and conservation.
Meet Our Newest Quokka Joeys
Quokkas are marsupials, meaning their young are born incredibly tiny and continue to grow safely inside mum’s pouch. After several months, joeys start to peek out, stretch their legs, and eventually take their first hops into the world.
Our keepers have recently observed our newest quokka joey beginning to:
-
Look out from the pouch
-
Explore briefly before hopping back to mum
- Nibble on grasses
-
Interact with its surroundings
These early stages are crucial for development and are a sign that mum and joey are thriving.
When Can You See the Quokka Joey?
Quokka joeys gradually spend more time outside the pouch as they grow stronger. While sightings can never be guaranteed (they nap a lot!), visitors over the coming weeks have a great chance of spotting the joey hopping beside mum or peeking out curiously.
